Girl Scout Cookies are a national treasure. Let’s face it, there’s no better time of year than when those little girls start pulling their wagons of cookies around the neighborhood. Thin Mints. Samoas. Peanut Butter Patties. Shortbread. Your belly just can’t go wrong.
And now, something even more amazing is in the works: Girl Scout Cookie cereal! As Thrillist reports, General Mills has paired with Girl Scouts to offer two amazing cereal options: Thin Mints and Samoas (also known as Caramel Crunch).
This is awesome for many reasons, among them:
1. Access to Girl Scouts cookies all year long!
2. You can eat Girl Scout cookies for breakfast without any shame.
Because, sure, you can eat Girl Scout cookies for breakfast without them being in cereal form, but that can feel a bit… wrong. It’s like wearing your pajamas outside the house. Sure, you can do it, but it’s kind of like you’re announcing to the world “I give up.”
Now, come January 2017, General Mills will be offering us a “get out of jail free” aka ‘”eat cookies for breakfast without shame” card, so we’ll no longer need to surreptitiously shove Girl Scouts in our month before lunchtime.
Not to mention, who doesn’t want to support a group of such hard-working girls? Perhaps even better than the taste of Girl Scout cookies is the story behind them. Girl Scout cookies went from being small batches of homemade cookies baked by Girl Scout members to the giant business it is today: Girl Scouts now sell around 200 million boxes per year! Is there anything a determined group of girls can’t do?
We can’t wait to get our hands on a box of Girl Scout cookie cereal come January. If these early photos of the cereal boxes are correct, these flavors will be a limited-edition, so keep your eyes peeled and your cereal bowls will be ready.
(And, no, Girl Scout Cookies are not made from real Girl Scouts!)
