Tina Fey has a strong track record for musicals. Her stage production of “Mean Girls,” based on her 2004 movie of the same name, was a hit on Broadway and scored a Tony nomination. And her new musical venture has all the ingredients to be equally successful — a stellar cast and a fun premise.

Musical sitcom “Girls5Eva” will air on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, and a new short clip from the show is causing a stir on social media. It’s less than a minute long, but it reveals that Busy Philipps and Sara Bareilles will star, alongside Renée Elise Goldsberry and famed “Saturday Night Live” writer Paula Pell. In the trailer, they harmonize about stardom on an otherwise empty stage.

They form the fictional one-hit-wonder ‘90s girl band Girls5Eva who are given a second chance at fame. Bareilles plays Dawn, described as being “a bit restless in life managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens,” reported The Wrap. Philipps, Goldsberry and Pell play Summer, Wickie and Gloria, respectively.

Peacock posted the clip, which shows the four of the now-older Girls5Eva singing some eyebrow-raising lyrics a cappella. “Gonna be famous five-ever / because forever’s too short / Gonna be famous three-gether / ’cause that’s one more than together,” they sing.

Goldsberry shared the trailer on Twitter, writing in the caption, “Hanging with my homies! I love them so much! ”

The project, which was executive produced by Fey along with “30 Rock” showrunner Robert Carlock and series creator Meredith Scardino, was first announced in August.

“It is a pinch-me moment to get to cross paths creatively with women like Meredith Scardino and Tina Fey, who I have been a fan of forever,” Bareilles told Variety at the time. “I am a longtime admirer of so many of the characters they have brought to life in other projects, and I am already in love with the women at the center of ‘Girls5eva.’ I am so excited to help bring to life what I will know to be a smart, creative, hilarious show with a lot of heart.”

The premiere date of “Girls5Eva” hasn’t been announced, but hopefully, it will be soon — it sounds like the perfect pandemic-era comedic relief we need.
