‘Glass skin’ is a new Korean beauty trend that makes skin look glowing and flawless

Instagram is always the best place to go for new makeup tips and skincare tricks. The latest trend taking over the social media site is so-called “glass skin,” a Korean beauty technique that makes skin appear poreless, silky and glowing. The skin is so healthy and blemish-free that it almost appears transparent.

Makeup artist Elle Choi is at the forefront of this new beauty trend, but unlike most Instagram beauty tutorials, glass skin is not about piling an inch of makeup onto your face. Instead, it’s about getting your skin as clean as possible—and then letting it shine on its own.

Instagrammer gaudy beauty shared this pic of her face using the technique. It really does look her skin is made of glass, doesn’t it?

Choi explains that flawless skin comes from having a good skincare regime. Here is how she achieves her “glass skin.”

First, she removes her makeup with a standard makeup wipe. Choi uses Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes, but any standard wipe will do.

She then washes her face thoroughly with a cleanser. Choi swears by drugstore-favorite Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Cleanser, but if you want to splurge, consider the GLAMGLOW SUPERCLEANSE Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser, which promises to super-clean glowing skin.

Next, it is crucial that you do not forget the toner! Many people think that toner is an unnecessary step (self included!), but once you add toner to your skincare regime, you will see how vital it really is for flawless-looking skin. It helps to treat and prepare the skin for your moisturizer, and it will allow your products to work more effectively. Choi uses a Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3. Try that, or consider getting a toner that you can gently mist all over your face, like CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir.

Now that your skin is prepped, it’s time to add moisture. Choi relies on the affordable Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, which can be purchased at drugstores. Or splurge on a skincare addict’s favorite, Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter, which provides instant hydration and creamy perfection.

Lastly, Choi says that she uses a beauty mask a couple of times a week to help slough off dead skin and give her face an extra glow. She swears by Skinfood’s Black Sugar Strawberry Wash Off Mask and these sheet masks from Innisfree. Another great (albeit pricey option) is the infamous Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel from the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare line.

There you have it: a step-by-step guide to achieving flawless “glass skin.”
