‘Grace and Frankie’ Renewed For Sixth Season
Earlier this month, “Grace and Frankie,” a hit Netflix original show about the friendship between two divorcées, debuted its fifth season. “Grace and Frankie” has already been renewed for a sixth season, which is set to premiere in 2020.
The quirky dramedy stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two women who become unlikely friends and roommates after they discover that their business partner husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson) have been having a clandestine affair for years. The series explores all four of their new lives, as well as the lives of their grown children, in the wake of their divorces.
Fans of the two female leads’ chemistry with fellow actress Dolly Parton in the 1980 workplace comedy “9 to 5” have long hoped that the country legend may make a cameo on “Grace and Frankie.” As recently as June 2018, the stars teased that it may still be a possibility, although Tomlin also acknowledged that Parton’s schedule is already packed with plenty of projects of her own.
That includes a “9 to 5” sequel, which was also recently announced.
“My involvement is an executive producer and together with Lily, we’re working with the writers,” Fonda said of the pending sequel during a Television Critics Association press tour for the HBO documentary “Jane Fonds in Five Acts.” “Right now, Dolly, Lily and I are all intending to be in it.”
During a recent appearance on the “Ellen Degeneres Show,” Tomlin and Fonda confirmed that they’ve hired writers for the “9 to 5” sequel and that a script for the movie is in the works.
Until then, we’ll have to continue enjoying the actors on the small screen. Tomlin has earned four Emmy nominations for her role on “Grace and Frankie,” and Fonda has earned one as well.
