Hear ‘Lion King’ stars Beyoncé and Donald Glover sing ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ for the first time
We’re just a month away from the premiere of the live-action “Lion King” and fans are getting psyched, thanks to a new video making the rounds on social media.
In the clip below, fans get to hear Beyonce and Donald Glover, who voice the characters of Nala and Simba, sing the chorus of the movie’s romantic duet “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” While the original version, sung by Joseph Stanley Williams and Sally Dworsky, featured a soaring instrumental and heavy backup vocals, this new version is stripped down in a beautifully haunting way.
As the song plays in the video, we also get a sneak peek of Mufasa talking to a young Simba. If Mufasa sounds familiar, it’s because James Earl Jones was the voice of Mufasa in the original 1994 movie and is reprising the role for the 2019 version.
The film is set to be released on July 19th and is directed by Jon Favreau (of “The Jungle Book” and “Iron Man” fame) with an all-star cast. In addition to Beyonce, Donald Glover, and James Earl Jones, the film features Seth Rogen as Pumba, John Oliver as Zazu, Chiwetel Ejiofor as the evil Scar, and Billy Eichner as Timon.
Keegan-Michael Key also voices one of Scar’s hyenas and said in a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon that he is was in shock the first time he saw the finished trailer for the film.
“It looks like a ‘National Geographic Special.’ It looks so real. The technology, the CGI they’re using now is so real. It looks like you’re watching real animals,” Key said.
Hear the new song in the tweet below; it comes from a Beyonce fan account called @BeyLegion. The post says the clip was taken from an international TV spot.
