Henry Winkler And Ron Howard Took A Selfie At The Emmys, And It’s ‘Happy Days’ All Over Again

It has been nearly 34 years since new episodes of “Happy Days” aired on television. But stars Ron Howard (Richard Cunningham) and Henry Winkler (Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, a.k.a. The Fonz) just made fans of the 1950s-style sitcom swoon with a selfie taken at the 2018 Emmys.

Winkler posted the photo to his Twitter account, with the caption “Pals at the Emmys.”

It’s sweet to see that even after decades have passed, these “Happy Days” alumni are still as tight as ever.

Winkler’s First Emmy

Winkler’s first Emmy nomination, more than 40 years ago, was for his role as Fonzie. The “Happy Days” star was nominated three times for playing the Fonz, and he earned one more Emmy nomination in the 1970s (for a documentary) before waiting 20 years for another nomination for his guest role in “The Practice” in 2000.

The 72-year-old finally won (upon his sixth nomination!) for his portrayal of wretched acting teacher Gene Cousineau in HBO’s “Barry.”

In his acceptance speech for the Emmy, Winkler joked that he “wrote this 43 years ago.” The actor then thanked his family and told his kids they could go to bed now, saying, “Daddy won!”

You can watch Winkler’s winning moment and acceptance speech in full below:

Howard celebrated Winkler’s win by posting a photo of his acceptance on Twitter, saying it was a “great moment!”

Of course, Howard’s tweet prompted fans to reply with classic clips of the Fonz giving his signature thumbs-up seal of approval.

“Barry” co-creator and lead actor Bill Hader also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The series centers around a hitman (Hader) who moves to L.A. and takes up acting. “Barry” earned a total of nine Emmy nominations for its debut season, including Outstanding New Program, which this year went to the BBC’s “Killing Eve.”

Onstage Emmy Awards Proposal

Though it was a big night for the coolest character on “Happy Days,” the onstage proposal at the Emmys really stole the show. Director Glenn Weiss snagged the Emmy for directing the Oscars telecast, then used his moment in the spotlight to propose to girlfriend Jan Svendsen.

We wish Weiss and Svendsen plenty of “Happy Days” ahead!
