Here’s How To Order Starbucks’ Keto ‘White Drink’

Over the past couple of years, Starbucks has been all about its colorful beverages. There were all the Rainbow Drinks, as well as the multi-colored blended drink known as the Unicorn Frappucino.  Now, a decidedly less colorful drink is about to be the latest trend at the chain, as those on the popular low-carb keto diet clamor for the White Drink, which fits the diet’s low-sugar demands.

For the uninitiated, “keto” is short for ketogenesis, the process in which the body begins burning fat for energy when it is deprived of carbs. The liver breaks down fat into something called ketones, which are a usable energy source.

Even if you’re not following the keto diet, the White Drink sounds like the perfect refreshment for late-summer hot days. The secret menu item is a low-sugar take on the chain’s Shaken Peach Citrus White Tea Infusion, which features white tea and liquid cane sugar.

As sugar is obviously a big no-no on the super-low-carb keto diet, the keto version makes a few substitutions. To get the White Drink, you should order an unsweetened Peach Citrus White Tea with heavy cream, no water and light ice. Instead of the liquid cane sugar, you can sweeten up the drink with a couple of pumps of sugar-free vanilla syrup or sugar-free cinnamon dolce syrup. You could also add a couple of packets of Stevia if you desire a sweeter taste.

It certainly looks like a tall cup of creamy goodness! If the White Drink doesn’t float your boat, but you still want your Starbucks fix without all the carbs, there’s a number of other drink orders out there to satisfy your cravings while keeping your sugar intake in check.
