Here’s when you can get free ice cream at Dairy Queen

This Friday, June 21st, is the summer solstice — i.e. the first official day of summer. And for many people, summer and ice cream just go together.

To celebrate, Dairy Queen is giving away one free small ice cream cone with any purchase. That means you can grab anything off their menu, like a burger — or if you’re feeling healthy, a salad — and get a dessert, too. You can choose between classic vanilla, chocolate dipped, or the fast food chain’s newest seasonal flavor, a Dreamsicle dipped cone.

In case you didn’t hear, Dairy Queen introduced this flavor a few months ago and described the treat to Buzzfeed as a cone “made with world-famous DQ soft serve and a vibrantly colored, creamy orange and vanilla flavored coating with a signature cone dip crunch.”

Take a look at the DQ Orange in the tweet below, posted to Dairy Queen’s official account:

According to soft serve enthusiasts who reviewed it on Twitter and were quoted in People, the Dreamsicle cone is “legit” and “the bomb.” And because the only thing that tastes better than ice cream is free ice cream, this Friday is the perfect day to try it if you haven’t already.

To snag the freebie, you will need to download Dairy Queen’s mobile app and show the cashier the digital coupon for the free cone. Remember, this offer is only good on Friday at participating locations nationwide.

However, Dairy Queen puts deals on their app regularly, so if you can’t get to a location on Friday, it might be worth holding on to anyway. Last year at around this time, they offered free Blizzards for downloading the app. You could get BOGO ice cream cone deals towards the end of the summer as well.
