Here’s your first look at Disney’s new live-action Dumbo movie

Here’s amazing news for Disney fans. The trailer for the new Tim Burton remake of “Dumbo” has just been released, and it’s every bit as thrilling and touching as you would expect.

The live-action “Dumbo” remake is due out in March 2019, but you can satisfy your curiosity with this trailer that is set to a haunting version of “Baby Mine.” (Dumbo’s mother sings it to Dumbo in the animated classic, and it’s physically IMPOSSIBLE to hear that song without wanting to weep.)

As you can see from the trailer, many big names are attached to this project, including Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Alan Arkin.

The “Dumbo” remake is one of many Disney films that are getting a live-action update, including “The Lion King,” “Mulan” and “The Little Mermaid.”

But “Dumbo” is more than just a stirring Disney classic. It is also a story based on a real-life elephant. In the 1800s, the London Zoo was home to an African elephant named Jumbo. Jumbo was famous for his massive size, but at night he would have “rages,” which ultimately led zookeepers to fear him. As a result, Jumbo was sold to the circus magnate PT Barnum.

Tragically, Jumbo was very poorly treated. Sir David Attenborough, English naturalist, studied his remains, which are kept in the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Attenborough says, “He has many signs of stress and strain-related injuries. They must have been incredibly painful for him but may have reflected the use to which he was put.”

Attenborough is referring to the fact that Jumbo had to give circus-goers rides on his back, even though he had an injured hip and was likely in a great deal of pain on a constant basis.

Although this is a tragic tale, Disney’s retelling of “Dumbo” has hopefully served to open many people’s minds to the fact that circus animals are often horribly mistreated. And now, with this 2019 remake in the works, even more children will learn about the power of a mother’s love, as well as the importance of protecting all animals from harm.
