Hershey’s new thumbprint cookie recipe is perfect for the holidays

If you don’t already have a batch of go-to holiday cookie recipes, chances are you spend more time each season searching the internet to figure out what to make than you do actually baking. This year, however, your days of searching endlessly may already be over for the season thanks to Hershey, who just released a new cookie recipe that sounds perfect for the holidays.

Hershey’s new Sugar Cookie Blossom recipe puts a new spin on the classic blossom cookie, a holiday favorite that has been around for decades. They are traditionally peanut butter cookies with a Hershey’s Kiss planted in the center. This new recipe, however, uses new Sugar Cookie Hershey’s Kisses, for a whole new way to enjoy the baked holiday standby.

The recipe also uses sugar cookie dough for a double sugar cookie experience. You can use any sugar cookie dough, including homemade, dry mix or refrigerated, so the recipe is quite versatile.

Hershey’s Sugar Cookie Blossoms

(makes 36 cookies)

Ingredients:

  • 36 Sugar Cookie Hershey’s Kisses candies
  • Your favorite sugar cookie dough (homemade, dry mix or refrigerated)
  • Flour, butter and egg, as required in your chosen sugar cookie mix
  • Green and red decorator’s sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove wrappers from candies; set aside.
  2. Mix cookie dough following package directions. Divide dough into 36 equal (about 1-1/4 inch) balls; roll in green or red sugar. Place balls about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until cookie edges are set. Let cool for 2 minutes; press a candy piece into center of each cookie. Move cookies from cookie sheet to wire rack and let them cool completely.

Hershey's

If you want to stick to a traditional Peanut Butter Blossoms recipe, you can find a regular and gluten-free version on Hershey’s website. These recipes are a bit more complicated than the Sugar Cookie Blossoms, as you’ll be making the dough from scratch and will need more ingredients, like sugar, eggs, milk, flour and other baking staples.

If peanut butter isn’t your thing, you can also make a chocolate cookie version by using unsweetened cocoa powder in the dough instead of peanut butter.

Hershey's

Hershey’s Sugar Cookie Kisses can be found at stores nationwide, including online at Walmart, where they are selling for $3.96 for a 9-ounce bag.
