This Pro Hockey Team Needs Help Naming A New Puppy

There are certain facts in this world that are indisputable: Peanut butter belongs with jelly, Tom will never stop chasing Jerry and all puppies are adorable.

Just take a look at this seven-week-old yellow Labrador retriever chosen by New York Islanders players Thomas Hickey and Matt Martin for the team’s Puppy with a Purpose partnership with Guide Dog Foundation.

As part of the initiative, the male Lab will spend the next 14 months learning socialization skills with the Islanders, while being trained to aid a child who is blind or visually impaired.

“A few people fell in love with the one we picked,” Martin told the Islanders website. “I’m excited to see him grow.”

While the newest member of Brooklyn’s pro hockey team is a ball of furry cuteness, the little pup doesn’t have a name yet — and the Islanders want your help with choosing one in an online contest that ends today.

Here are more pictures of the precious pup in Islanders gear, all posted to the team’s Twitter account:

The New York Islanders are the second pro sports team in the state to help out with a service dog. As part of its partnership with BluePath, the New York Rangers “signed” a yellow lab named Ranger to the team last month to support him to one day help a child with autism.

You can vote for the Islanders’ new puppy’s name here. The team will reveal the winning name on Wednesday, Sept. 5, and the puppy will begin guide dog training on Sept. 14.
