March has finally arrived, and we’re starting to think green. After all, St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner — and so is spring! If you’re feeling in the mood for a sweet treat that embodies the best of the season, look no further. We absolutely adore these super-cute four-leaf clover gumdrops that you can easily make at home.

The recipe for homemade shamrock gumdrops come from two separate bloggers — Jen at CincyShopper and Chrysa at Thrifty Jinxy — and couldn’t be easier. That’s because it requires just four ingredients — and, of course, a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter.

If you don’t have one already, Thrifty Jinxy suggests springing for this set at Amazon, which costs $9:

To make these cute candies in your own kitchen, you’ll need just applesauce, lime Jell-O, sugar and an unflavored gelatin, such as Knox.

The preparation time for making these gumdrops is about half an hour and includes boiling time. You’ll also need three hours for the gelatin to set.

You’ll end up with about 30 adorable gumdrops perfect for any celebration, or to surprise your kids with when they get home from school. (Or maybe to hide in the back of your cabinet for your next Netflix binge … we won’t judge.)

These look so impressive without being terribly work-intensive!

For the full method, you’re going to want to visit the CincyShopper blog or Thrifty Jinxy — the recipes are identical. They’ll walk you through everything you need to do.

Of course, you don’t have to stick with lime flavors or even shamrock shapes, if you’d prefer something else. Jen at CincyShopper, for example, also offers a recipe for Valentine’s Day gumdrops that switches out the lime Jell-O in favor of strawberry. Simply use heart-shaped cookie cutters instead of shamrock ones.

And then, use your imagination to adapt the recipe to other holidays coming up. Maybe Berry Blue and Cherry Jell-O stars for Independence Day, or green and red ones for Christmas?

You could also take any of these holidays up a notch by using your homemade candy in decorating. For example, use your shamrock gumdrops to create a St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun House, like the blogger at It’s A Mother Thing. She doesn’t use gumdrops for decorating, but these sorts of projects are ripe for creativity, don’t you think?

If you don’t like gumdrops, green velvet cake pops from Love From The Oven might be the ticket. Or how about some delicious leprechaun bark? There are a ton of child-friendly recipes that work well for St. Patrick’s Day, from homemade Shamrock Shakes to healthier green fruit skewers.

In any case, you won’t have any trouble finding recipes for themed treats you can make at home that will make your holiday that much sweeter!
