This hospital dressed newborns up as Mister Rogers—and the photos are ridiculously cute

Childhood icon Mister Rogers was always instantly recognizable thanks to his signature getup consisting of a red cardigan sweater and blue sneakers. So when newborns at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Magee-Womens Hospital emulated the star’s style to pay tribute to him on World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, there was no denying the source of the inspiration — and the results were too cute.

Rogers was well-known for his incredible kindness and inclusivity, so it’s no surprise that he would be honored on the holiday, especially in his hometown of Pittsburgh.

Check out how cute these babies look in their Rogers-inspired outfits, as evidenced by these photos posted to Facebook by the hospital:

Aww! The outfits were crocheted by Caitlin Pechin, a nurse at the hospital. Parents of the little ones who wore the outfits felt it was a very meaningful event.

“It was just a really special thing to see the red sweater and the shoes and to know they were both knitted by one of the nurses in the hospital,” Kristen Lewandowski, whose newborn daughter, Mary Rose, was among those who donned the outfit, told “Good Morning America.”

To make the day even more special, Mrs. Joanne Rogers, Mr. Fred Rogers’ widow, also made an appearance at the event. She said her husband would have loved the tribute.

Babies at Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Hospital also wore tiny versions of Rogers’ iconic outfit.

“In Pittsburgh, we are also celebrating Cardigan Day, in honor of Pittsburgher Fred Rogers, who modeled kindness and compassion to children,” Stephanie Waite, a spokesperson for the Allegheny Health Network, told CNN.

Check out their take on the idea in these photos posted to the hospital’s Facebook page:

How precious! Here’s hoping these babies to grow up to display even a fraction of the kindness shown by Mister Rogers.
