Spring is officially here, which means that we can expect some warmer weather and longer days — along with new seasonal treats. Hostess is getting an early start by releasing a new flavor of cupcakes that is perfect for spring and summer: Key Lime Pie!
The yellow cupcake is filled with creamy lime-flavored filling and then topped with green icing. Of course, it also has the signature Hostess squiggle.
While this is the first time Hostess has launched a Key lime pie-flavored cupcake, the brand has had plenty of other fun flavors over the years. Along with the traditional chocolate cupcakes, we’ve seen everything from birthday cupcakes to unicorn, s’mores, iced lemon and mint chocolate cupcakes.
The unicorn cupcakes are just as pretty as they sound, featuring yellow cake with pink and purple decorative specks, creamy filling, teal icing, sprinkles and a pink squiggle.
If Key lime pie is your favorite sweet treat, however, you’ll be happy to know that Hostess cupcakes aren’t the only lime-flavored treat to hit shelves recently.
Kit Kat just released a new Key lime pie flavor of their classic candy, with the same crispy wafer layers as original Kit Kats, but with a twist of Key lime pie-flavored crème. You can find them for a limited time nationwide in a 1.5-ounce standard bar for around $1.09 each.
You can also now buy Key lime pie M&Ms, which are green and white M&Ms made with white chocolate. And, of course, you can always make your own Key lime pie or another dessert with the same type of flavor, like these 5-ingredient Key lime pie bars from Pillsbury.
The bars call for Pillsbury refrigerated sugar cookies, whipped topping, sweetened condensed milk, lime juice and Key lime pie yogurt.
Will you be trying Hostess’ new Key lime pie cupcakes this spring or summer?
