How much would you pay for a nap? In NYC, $25 is the going rate

Do you need a 45-minute nap? In New York City, the Casper mattress company has opened a lounge for those who need to recharge during the middle of the day.

The lounge is called Dreamery, and for $25, customers can take a nap on a Casper mattress, and wear special pajamas provided by the lounger. The Dreamery also offers auto-fading lights, a pendant light for reading and ventilation for airflow in a nook.

The nap session also comes with complimentary refreshments and coffee following the nap session.

“You come into this incredibly magical experience, and that’s part of what the goal here was,” Jeff Brooks, CMO of Casper, told AdWeek. “To bring some of that joy and magic back to that bedtime ritual.”

Besides opening the Dreamery this week, Brooks told AdWeek that the NYC location could be the first of a broader concept. Brooks said he envisions pop-up nap shops to launch at universities, office spaces and airports.

The Benefits Of Naps

Are naps healthy? According to the Mayo Clinic, naps can be part of a healthy routine as long as there is not an obvious cause of new fatigue.

The Mayo Clinic offers the following tips for those who need a midday nap:

  • Keep naps short. Aim to nap for only 10 to 30 minutes. The longer you nap, the more likely you are to feel groggy afterward.
  • Take naps in the afternoon. The best time for a nap is usually midafternoon, around 2 or 3 p.m. This is the time of day when you might experience post-lunch sleepiness or a lower level of alertness. In addition, naps taken during this time are less likely to interfere with nighttime sleep. Keep in mind, however, that individual factors — such as your need for sleep and your sleeping schedule — also can play a role in determining the best time of day to nap.
  • Create a restful environment. Nap in a quiet, dark place with a comfortable room temperature and few distractions.
