How to make an easy no-carve ‘Poison apple’ pumpkin

Disney Parks Blog/YouTube

If scooping pumpkin guts is the scariest part of your Halloween season, we’ve got a tempting solution for you — no carving required.

This Snow White-inspired “poison apple” pumpkin is the perfect villainous decoration you can make right now because while it may look wickedly enticing to passersby, it won’t attract those pesky squirrels who are always ruining our jack-o’-lanterns before Halloween.

Disney Parks Blog shared simple, step-by-step instructions to help you can channel your inner Evil Queen and create your own spooktacular poison apple pumpkin at home.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pumpkin (real or fake)
  • Red paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Shaving cream*
  • White glue*
  • Printed template (download and print)
  • Pencil or marker
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Various shades of red paint (optional)

*The amount of shaving cream and glue you need will depend on the size of your pumpkin.

Follow these step-by-step instructions and you’re sure to have the most tantalizing pumpkin on the block.

Step 1: Paint your pumpkin red and let it dry completely. (For a more realistic look, use metallic red and dark red paint together.)

Step 2: Use this printable template to trace the face onto the pumpkin using a marker or pencil.

Step 3: Mix together equal parts shaving cream and white glue. Once mixed, add a little extra glue to the mixture to help the foam last longer.

Step 4: Using a spoon or your hands (kids will love the messier option — parents, not so much), drip globs of the mixture halfway down the sides of the pumpkin. Be sure to avoid putting any of the mix over the eyes and nose you traced. Fill in any gaps.

Step 5: Let it dry and display it to spook all who dare to pass. After about a week and a half the foam mixture will begin to deflate. You can make and add more of the foam mix, or wipe it off and start over!

See exactly how it’s done in this quick how-to video from Disney Parks on YouTube:

Ever since Walt Disney World’s March closure due to the pandemic, Disney has been sharing recipes, crafts and videos to help Disney fans recreate their favorite elements from the Disney parks at home.

The poison apple has become a Halloween staple at Disney World, which reopened in July. We’ve spotted it making its ominous appearance around Disney World on everything from candle holders to Christmas ornaments. And now you can bring a little of this brand of Disney magic home!
