Champagne on New Year’s Eve? Sure, that’s a classic.

But if you’re looking for a new drink to ring in the New Year, you could take a cue from “Saved by the Bell” alum Tiffani Thiessen, who is sharing with us her bubbly go-to champagne cocktail, as well as her plans for the New Year. Thiessen has been busy this year: The wife and mom of two is the author of a new cookbook and she is starring in the Netflix original sitcom “Alexa & Katie,” which is about two teenagers who are navigating high school life and illness and has been receiving rave reviews.

Here’s how Thiessen is bidding adieu to 2018:

Q: Go-to drink for New Year’s Eve?

TT: I mean, you can’t go wrong with a good glass of bubbly! But this year, I’ll be wowing my guests by putting an unexpected spin on the New Year’s Eve staple with a Fernet Champagne Flip. I created this frothy egg white cocktail for Happy Egg Co, a company with a mission that’s near and dear to my heart. Their hens are raised with love on eight acres of pasture land.

Here’s the recipe:

  • 1.5 oz champagne
  • 1 oz Fernet-Branca
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 1 oz ginger liqueur
  • 2 dashes spiced bitter (Thiesen loves Bittermilk No. 4)
  • 1 Happy Egg white
  • 1 lemon twist, for garnish
  • 1 mint sprig, for garnish

Directions:

Pour champagne in a cocktail glass. Dry shake the Fernet-Branca, sweet vermouth, ginger liqueur, bitters and egg white. Strain over the champagne. Garnish with lemon twist and mint.

Q: What’s on your 2018 highlight reel?

TT: 2018 has been such a whirlwind. I got to see a dream come to life with the release of my cookbook, “Pull Up a Chair: Recipes from my Family to Yours.” We’re celebrating the release of season two of “Alexa & Katie.” (Psst, season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.) I’ve met so many amazing people and made memories with my family and friends this year. My family is healthy, and our home is safe. So I’ll be definitely be celebrating by giving thanks for all of it.

Q: Do you make resolutions?

TT: I don’t, actually. I’m all for setting goals and striving to be my best self, but I don’t wait until the new year to do that. I think it’s just in my nature that if there’s something I want to do or a change I feel needs to be made, I tackle it then and there.
