‘Ice Cream Dude’ Gives Kids Free Ice Cream Topped With A Lesson In Gratitude
Here’s a story that’s just right for these hot summer months. What could be better than ice cream on a hot summer day? What could be worse than not having any money to afford it, while your friends do? Enter James Karagiannis, AKA “The Ice Creamcycle Dude.”
Here’s the (ice cream) scoop. James and his team peddle about Buffalo, New York, neighborhoods, selling ice cream novelties for a dollar. Sometimes kids don’t have that much. So he gives them one—but there’s a catch. They have to answer a history question—or write a thank you note to someone who has donated via his Pay It Forward campaign.
As Karagiannis told Huffington Post: “It’s just so simple. It’s not really hard to make a difference.”
The money he raises for his organization helps cover the cost of ice cream plus the cost of postcards and postage.
There are now eight “Ice Cream Dudes” on the streets.
Pretty sweet story, huh?
