For those who love mint-flavored desserts, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. The Girl Scouts are selling their famous Thin Mint cookies, and the Shamrock Shake should be making its annual return to McDonald’s menus any day now.
And adding to the mint madness this year: a delicious new green milkshake that Dairy Queen recently debuted.
The freshly minted milkshake at DQ sounds a lot like McDonald’s beloved Shamrock Shake. It starts with a blend of mint-flavored syrup, milk and vanilla soft serve. The whole thing is then topped off with a swirl of whipped cream, according to the description. The minty dessert is also available as a malt.
According to food news website Chew Boom, a rendition of the mint milkshake has been on Dairy Queen’s “secret menu” for some time. Now, however, Dairy Queen’s mint shake is available to the masses — which is big news for all of you dessert fiends!
If you’d rather skip out on Dairy Queen and hold out for the Shamrock Shake instead, you may have to wait a little longer to get your hands on it. So far, there’s no word just yet on when it will officially be back on menus at McDonald’s. However, the limited-time milkshake appeared last year in the second week of February.
McDonald’s says its Shamrock Shake was first launched in the United States in 1970 and has built “an almost cult-like following.” We believe it!
To give the fans what they want, the chain restaurant unveiled a “Shamrock Shake Finder” app for smartphones last year.
Also, if you’re looking for a slightly new twist on your Shamrock Shake, you might be able to request a chocolate one.
So, if you can’t wait until McDonald’s brings back its Shamrock Shake, or if the McDonald’s ice cream machine nearest to you is in a permanent state of disrepair, you can try out the new mint milkshake at Dairy Queen.
Just make sure to report back on which minty rendition is better!
