Grab the tissues. Iman, supermodel, philanthropist and makeup mogul, shared the most beautiful message on Instagram in honor of David Bowie and what would have been their 25th wedding anniversary.

The simple but powerful image speaks to their lasting bond and the hole that Bowie left in Iman’s life when he passed last year. The message features a sweet side profile picture of the couple under an umbrella. In it, Bowie is kissing Iman’s forehead. Alongside the image, Iman wrote “I would walk forever, just to be in your arms again.”

Bowie died in January 2016 after a long bout with liver cancer. He left behind two children, Alexandria, 16, and Duncan, 46.

Iman and Bowie’s relationship is a shining example of what true love is all about. They met in 1990 during a time when Bowie was struggling with the strange combination of loneliness and overwhelming fame. While he had millions of adoring fans, he was trapped in a “desperately solitary life,” according to his close pal and hairdresser Teddy Antolin.

That all changed the night he met Iman at a dinner party. Bowie says that it was love at first sight, telling HELLO magazine in 2000, “My attraction to her was immediate and all-encompassing. I couldn’t sleep for the excitement of our first date,” he told HELLO!. “That she would be my wife, in my head, was a done deal. I’d never gone after anything in my life with such passion in all my life. I just knew she was the one.”

Bowie even said that he was already naming their children the night they met! Iman, however, wasn’t so sure. She was concerned about beginning a relationship with someone who was so famous, but fortunately, she followed her heart and the pair enjoyed 24 beautiful years together.

While Bowie was still alive, Iman shared the secret to their lasting marriage.

“We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home, we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else,” she said in an Oprah Winfrey Network interview.

Iman also said that timing plays a key role in long-term relationships. “You have to be at the right time [in] your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes a first priority in your life.”

It’s easy to see that Iman and Bowie shared a special, eternal bond, and it’s beautiful to see her keeping his memory and legacy alive.
