Hollywood marriages don’t tend to have a very long shelf life, but there are some famous lovebirds who defy the odds.
One classic celeb couple that has been keeping the romance alive for decades is Barbra Streisand and James Brolin. The talented duo just celebrated 20 years of marriage, and they’re giving couples everywhere #goals, proving that love can exist even in Tinseltown!
“Twenty years in Hollywood is like 50 years in Chicago, I always say,” Streisand once joked.
Brolin and Streisand married in 1998, two years after they went on a blind date with one another. To celebrate their anniversary, Streisand posted this touching tribute on her Instagram page:
She signed the message, “Bee,” which must be the nickname Brolin uses for her. How adorable is that?
Brolin, who is currently starring in the popular CBS sitcom “Life in Pieces,” credits the longevity of his marriage to the fact that he and Streisand aren’t afraid to have honest talks with each other, even about difficult topics.
“You can’t lie to anybody, you have to let them know what’s going on in your mind and be very graceful about it and polite,” Brolin told Parade. “And every once in a while sit there and have a difficult conversation about all the unsaid things. And by the end of it you’re going to be so close it’s unreal.”
“[I]t’s really all about communication and forgiveness,” he concluded.
Brolin is the proud father of three, including “Guardians of the Galaxy” star Josh Brolin.
Streisand is mother to one son, musician Jason Gould (from her first marriage to Elliot Gould, to whom she was wed from 1963 to 1971).
For his part, Brolin was married twice previously, first to the late Jane Cameron Agee (who is the mother of Brolin’s sons Josh and Jess) and then to “WKRP in Cincinnati” actor Jan Smithers (who is the mother of his daughter, Molly).
Ironically, Brolin and Streisand say it was their failed marriages that taught them how to stay strong in their love to one another.
“This is my third marriage, and I know what trouble can come out of marriage, so I didn’t want any reason that I would ever have to be either divorced or married again,” Brolin told HuffPost. “We’ve been in heaven for 20 years, so it works.”
Congrats to the happy couple!
