Jimmy Kimmel Plays Halloween Candy Prank On His Own Daughter

Jimmy Kimmel’s tradition of tricking kids into thinking their parents ate their Halloween candy is in its seventh year, and now, the late-night talk show host is able to play the trick himself—on his own daughter.

The prank began in 2011, when Kimmel challenged parents to tell their children they ate all their candy, film their reactions, and then post it to YouTube. It was a hit with parents and those watching, although the kids were far from pleased. As Kimmel noted, most shed more than a few tears.

Since then, parents have been filming and sharing their kids’ reactions every Halloween. Now celebrities and even Kimmel himself are getting in on the trick.

While guest-hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” the day after Halloween, actor Channing Tatum introduced the clip of Kimmel playing the trick on his daughter, 3-year-old Jane. As you can imagine, it’s pretty adorable, but unlike most kids in the videos, Jane didn’t seem too distraught.

“I have to tell you something,” Kimmel said in the video. “Last night while you were sleeping, Mommy and I ate all your Halloween candy.”

Jane said while she’s not mad her candy is gone, she’s also not happy.

“Daddy only ate Skittles, M&Ms, Kit Kats, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, gum, and eyeballs and Twizzlers and lollipops,” Kimmel said. “Jimmy Kimmel told me to do it.”

The eyeballs, by the way? They’re bubbles, which Jane pointed out to her father are for blowing, not eating.

“I ate the bubbles,” Kimmel said. “Every time I hiccup, a bubble comes out.”

Jane’s reaction may have been so tame because her dad played the trick on her last year for the first time. But her reaction then was similarly calm, so perhaps she just doesn’t care about candy too much!

The same night Kimmel shared his latest video with his daughter, Tatum decided that as guest host, he too should play the prank on his daughter, 4-year-old Everly. Her reaction was more like most kids—she started crying—until her dad told her it was just a joke. She replied, “That’s not funny.” Sorry, Everly, but it totally is!

The next day, guest host Jennifer Lawrence introduced this year’s compilation of the challenge from parents all over the country. The three- minute-long video is just as you’d expect—lots of tears—but also some punches and even a middle finger (!!!).

One kid, however, told his mom, “It’s fine. That’s OK. You can do that, whatever you want to” while another said “That’s alright. I forgive you.” So sweet! Another kid even figured it out, saying, “Wait a minute. I think you’re trying to trick me!”
