Jimmy Kimmel’s Son Billy Undergoes His Second Successful Heart Surgery

Fans of late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” might notice that their favorite funny man is missing in action this week. But don’t worry — there’s a good reason Kimmel is not around. He is at home taking care of his seven-month-old, Billy, following heart surgery.

Billy was born with a serious heart defect called tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, which basically means there are holes throughout his heart. Little Billy required a three-hour cardiac surgery shortly after being born, and although he pulled through like a champion, doctors warned his parents that he would need two more surgeries in the coming year.

On Monday morning, Billy underwent another heart surgery. (It was meant to happen in October, but it had to be rescheduled because the little boy was sick with a cold.) While it was no doubt an anxiety-ridden time for his parents, ABC reported that the surgery went well. Billy is now recuperating with his family, so Kimmel is staying close to his wee one for the week.

Throughout his leave, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” will have celebrity hosts fill in, including Chris Pratt, Tracee Ellis Ross, Neil Patrick Harris and Melissa McCarthy.

Last, Pratt helmed the show and interviewed actress Margot Robbie and country singer Chris Stapleton.

It’s wonderful that Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney, head writer for his show, are able to spend this time with their baby. Although Billy is fortunate to have expert medical care, it is still so frightening to see your child in the hospital, especially for such an invasive surgery.

We are wishing the Kimmel family lots of love and support during this time, as well as comfort and healing for Billy.
