Chrissy Teigen has spoken on social media for the first time since announcing on Sept. 30 that she lost her baby boy, whom she and husband John Legend had named Jack. Her Instagram post on Oct. 19 was a screenshot of tweets from Legend, after he dedicated his 2020 Billboard Music Awards performance of “Never Break” to his wife.

“This is for Chrissy,” Legend tweeted. “I love and cherish you and our family so much. We’ve experienced the highest highs and lowest lows together. Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling.” He attached a YouTube video of his performance of “Never Break.”

“I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments,” Legend continued in his tribute to Teigen. “What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility.”

The multi award-winning artist also thanked everyone who had been sending them “prayers and well wishes, flowers, cards, words of comfort and empathy.” He added, “We feel and appreciate your love and support more than you know.”

A handful of people gave Teigen harsh criticism for sharing heartbreaking images in the wake of their pregnancy loss on her social media accounts, but many have applauded her for her bravery in speaking so publicly about such a devastating loss. In another tweet, Legend revealed that they had “heard so many stories about how so many other families have experienced this pain, often suffering in silence.” He wrote, “It’s a club no one wants to be a part of, but it’s comforting to know we’re not alone.”

Legend also explained why he wrote “Never Break,” writing, “I have faith that as long as we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test. We promised each other this on our wedding day seven years ago, and every challenge we’ve faced has made that promise more powerful, more resilient.”

“Our love will remain,” he said. “We will never break.”

Meanwhile, Teigen kept her Instagram caption brief. “We are quiet but we are okay,” she wrote. “Love you all so much.”
