John Stamos made a great uncle on “Full House” and his new show “Fuller House,” but now he’s going to see what it’s like to be a dad — in real life. Stamos and his fiancée Caitlin McHugh are expecting their first child together.

The actor is 54 years old and thought becoming a father may have not been in the cards for him. In an exclusive interview with People magazine he said, “People would say, ‘You should have a child.’ I was like, ‘That ship has sailed.’”

But he admitted that he “always wanted to be a dad.” It likely has something to do with the fact that he himself had such a great father.

“I had the best father in the world,” the actor said. “It kills me that my parents aren’t here to be part of this.”

Fortunately, he’s got all the support he could need in McHugh. He shared with “Entertainment Tonight” that his parents would have loved her.

“I know my parents are smiling down. I know they would love her. She’s a gentle, kind, graceful soul who would be a good mother,” he said shortly after their engagement.

Now, the couple couldn’t be more excited to be starting a family together.

“The look on John’s face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless,” McHugh told People. “It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn’t sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!”

To quote Uncle Jesse, “Have mercy!”

In October, Stamos popped the question at Disneyland …

As far as his parenting style, Stamos already has an idea of how he’ll be with his kid.

“I’ll be a fun dad. I’ve been practicing for a long time,” he told People. “I’ve done every schtick you can do with a baby on TV … all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I’ll probably just do all that stuff.”

Practice makes perfect, after all! Congratulations to the happy couple and their growing family!
