‘The Big Bang Theory’ Star Johnny Galecki Is ‘Over The Moon’ To Be Expecting His First Baby

Congratulations are in order for “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki, as he and his girlfriend, Alaina Meyer, are expecting their first child together. They each took to Instagram to share the good news, and the parents-to-be couldn’t be more excited about having a baby on the way.

“We are absolutely over the moon to announce that we will soon be welcoming a little one into this crazy and wonderful world,” Galecki wrote in a post on May 3, alongside a photo of themselves.

“We ask that you please respect our privacy during this celebratory time for us and our families. There truly is love out there for all. We hope ours is the ember of yours, as we feel yours is the ember of ours.”

Meyer echoed his sentiments in her own post the same day:

“So happy to announce that we are having a baby!” she wrote. “There couldn’t be a better blessing in the world for us and we are over the moon happy. We appreciate as much privacy in this time as we are celebrating with close friends and family, and we are happy to share the news with you.”

On May 26, the couple updated fans with the news that they’re having a boy with a shot from their gender reveal party, in which they’re both covered in blue paint:

“I can not wait to raise a baby boy with my love,” Meyer wrote. “He will follow in his father’s footsteps of being a generous, loving, chivalrous fellow.”

Galecki also posted his own shot from the party and captioned it, “A day I’ll never forget.”

During an appearance on “The Talk” on May 9, Galecki joked that he thought his style choices might be influencing the sex of his child.

“I get a little bored looking exactly the same way for nine and a half months every year playing Leonard,” he said. “So, we wrapped, and I threw some blue in my hair. Then, I got superstitious that I was, like, manifesting a boy, when I kind of prefer a girl — don’t play this tape for my child years from now. So, I painted my nails pink to try to even out the energy there.”

The timing’s great, since the last episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” aired this month after 12 seasons. During that time, many of the cast members have seen life changes; four babies were born during the course of the show, which started airing in 2007. Simon Helberg, known to fans as Howard Wolowitz, had two children after marrying in 2007. Melissa Rauch, who plays Howard’s wife Bernadette, had her first baby at age 37 in late 2017.

Several other co-stars were married during the course of the show, too. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, married partner Todd Spiewak in 2017. Kunal Nayyar, the series’ Raj Koothrappali, was married to Neha Kapur in late 2011. Kaley Cuoco, the only regular female cast member who has been with the show since day one, was married to Ryan Sweeting between 2013-2015, then married Karl Cook in 2018.

Mayim Bialik, the only main cast member not mentioned so far, had her second and last child in 2008, which was two years before she joined the show. She and husband Michael Stone divorced in 2012.

Here’s the entire cast, getting their handprints immortalized in the cement at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood earlier this month. At that ceremony, they became the first group in 92 years of the tradition honored solely for contributions to television.

The long-running CBS comedy, with 279 episodes, has been nominated for 46 Emmy Awards and won seven of them; Jim Parsons earned four Emmy wins and a Golden Globe for his role. He and Kaley Cuoco also have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
