Just add “catcher” to Dana Isaiah’s list of job titles.

In a just-published interview with People, singer Jordin Sparks recalls the day she gave birth to her first child with Isaiah, whom she married last year. And it seems the 26-year-old model played a crucial role in the delivery: When Sparks delivered their son, Dana Isaiah, Jr., Isaiah was there to catch the baby, with the help of Sparks’ midwife.

Talk about literally being a hands-on dad!

Sparks gets candid about motherhood in the latest issue of People, telling the outlet that she’s still becoming used to the “mom” title.

“I’m a mom. That’s so nuts,” the “Tattoo” singer told People. “I have moments where it just hits me.”

That’s not all: Sparks also opened up about why she chose to have a natural birth, which refers to labor without pain-reducing drugs. The “American Idol” winner delivered her 8-pound, 4,5-ounce baby boy, whom she calls DJ, on May 2 at 9:04 p.m. at the Natural Birth Center & Women’s Wellness in Los Angeles.

Just look at how cute he is in this photo Sparks posted to her Instagram account:

For his part, Isaiah told the magazine that his wife “handled [the birth] like a champ.” But the 28-year-old mom attributed that to having her husband by her side. “When I was going to different places and different universes with the contractions, he was right there in my ear or rubbing my back,” she said.

Now, the father-son duo is inseparable. Here he is holding DJ earlier this month:

Childbirth can obviously be intense, so it’s beautiful that Isaiah never left Sparks’ side. And that bond can only get stronger from here on out.
