Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has taken to Twitter to announce some sad news: The “Veep” star has been diagnosed with breast cancer. “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” Louis-Dreyfus, 56, wrote in her post.

Despite the the difficult nature of the news, it seems the star is taking it in stride and remaining positive. She also used the opportunity to express her support for universal health care and encourage the continued fight against all forms of cancer.

“The good news is I have the most glorious group of supporting and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality,” she went on to say in the post.

Fans and fellow entertainers alike immediately responded with an outpouring of sympathy and support for the actress.

Actress Christina Applegate, who herself survived breast cancer, let the star know she was there if she needed to talk:

Another declared that her fan base will be there to support the actress through this trying time:

The diagnosis comes on the heels of a much happier moment for Louis-Dreyfus, who took home her sixth consecutive Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Veep.” Her win has shattered records, and she now holds the most Emmy wins for one role and is tied with eight-time winner Cloris Leachman (who starred on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Facts of Life,” “The Beverly Hillbillies” and others) for the most acting Emmy wins.

“This is and continues to be the role of a lifetime and an adventure of utter joy. Thank you so, so much,” Louis-Dreyfus said in her most recent acceptance speech.

Filming is about to begin on the final season of “Veep,” but the decision to end the show reportedly had nothing to do with Louis-Dreyfus’ diagnosis. According to E! News, writers are continuing to work on the season, and production will be adjusted to accommodate her treatment if needed.

In the meantime, we are wishing her all the best!
