Yesterday was Star Wars Day, held on May 4 as a play on the famous saying, “May the Force (May the fourth) be with you.” And Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau couldn’t help but celebrate with some adorable Star Wars socks.
Trudeau posted an Instagram story of himself wearing the mismatched Star Wars socks during an official meeting with the Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny held in Montreal on Thursday. The socks featured R2-D2 and C-3PO, because who could pick just one of the sidekick droids to rep on their feet?
And naturally, the internet loved it. People tweeted their support of the prime minister’s fashion choices all day long, saying things like “that’s what a PM is supposed to dress like.”
Can we all please talk about Justin Trudeau's socks, that's what a PM is supposed to dress like 👏🏼 #MayTheFourthBeWithYou pic.twitter.com/eICp1Atftv

Others alerted the Star Wars fandom saying, “JUSTIN TRUDEAU IS WEARING STAR WARS SOCKS THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”

And Trudeau himself responded to the internet fervor with a cheeky close-up of the socks in question, captioning the tweet “These are the socks you’re looking for,” a play on the line “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” from “Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope.”

If you’re in desperate need of your own Star Wars Day socks (you can wear them any day of the week though, we won’t argue), they’re from the sock company Stance, and they cost $20. Oh, and the same sock company also sells a variety of other Star Wars-themed socks, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca and even entire six- and 12-packs of socks that feature most main characters from the beloved series.
Oh, and this isn’t Trudeau’s first foray into the fancy sock world: The PM is well-known for his interesting sock choices. In the past, he wore socks with a skull pattern to a U.S. Chamber of Commerce meeting and maple leaf socks (obviously) for last year’s Canada Day celebrations.
May the Force (and the fourth) always be with Justin!
