Kanye West has announced he plans to fully cover college tuition for Gianna Floyd, the daughter of George Floyd, ensuring her access to higher education when the time comes.

A representative for West told CNN that the 529 education plan West is establishing for 6-year-old Gianna is part of a $2 million donation that includes legal funds for the families of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor as well as funding for black-owned businesses in crisis in Chicago, West’s home town, and other cities.

The death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd while in police custody has sparked protests and marches around the country — and the world — calling for racial equality and justice.

And this week, a heartbreaking moment was captured on video while Gianna was at one of the protests. In the short clip posted to Instagram by @Skrptz, Gianna is seen sitting on the shoulders of her father’s friend, former NBA player Stephen Jackson, saying, “Daddy changed the world.”

West has been out protesting this week as well. He joined Chicago Public School students on the city’s South Side who were protesting to demand that the city keep police officers out of their schools.

NBC5 reporter Trina Orlando shared video of him joining the march on Twitter.

Both West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, are no strangers to donating to causes they believe in. Earlier this year, West donated an undisclosed amount to Chicago-based organization We Women Empowered and the Los Angeles-based nonprofit The Dream Center, both of which have been donating meals to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

For his wife’s birthday last year, he also donated $1 million to her favorite charities that work to advance prison reform. The donation in her name went to Cut 50, Buried Alive Project, Equal Justice Initiative and Anti-Recidivism Coalition. Kardashian West Tweeted, “This makes my heart so happy!”

Have you made a donation to any of the organizations fighting for racial justice?
