Prince William and Kate Middleton are passionate about many causes, in particular mental health. On Nov. 8, the Duchess of Cambridge spoke to the crowd at the Place2Be School Leaders Forum in London, and she discussed her own children and how she wouldn’t hesitate to get them mental healthcare if it was needed. She and William are parents to Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2.

“As a mother, just getting used to leaving my own child at the school gates, it is clear to me that it takes a whole community to help raise a child. Whether we are school leavers, teachers, support staff or parents we are all in this together,” she said. “Collaborating with experts like yourselves, we’re looking at providing easy access to information and practical tools to support teachers, parents and children feel comfortable talking about their mental health.”

Mental health for all people, including children, is a subject about which Middleton is passionate and vocal. In fact, in an Instagram post from last year, Middleton stressed the importance of taking mental health seriously, and said that her attitude toward it extends to her own children.

“Throughout my work with family and child support organizations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up. Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it.”

Middleton, who is currently pregnant with her third child, also attended a gala for one of the mental heath organizations she works with and supports, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families (AFNCCF), on Nov. 7.

AFNCCF is a children’s mental health charity with over 60 years of experience of caring for young minds. Their goal is transform the current mental health provision in the U.K. by improving the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of treatment.

We’re so glad that Kate and William have taken on such an important issue that affects so many!
