Kate Middleton looked stunning in Princess Diana’s favorite tiara at a Buckingham Palace party
Kate Middleton recently got all dressed up to attend Queen Elizabeth’s white-tie reception for diplomats at Buckingham Palace. The entire royal family looked lovely, but what stole the show was Middleton’s tiara. The Duchess of Cambridge donned the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was also a reported favorite of Princess Diana’s. The crown is made of diamond and pearls, and the rest of Middleton’s jewelry matched her sparkling headpiece.
This is one of only a handful of appearances Middleton has made wearing one of her late mother-in-law’s pieces. She’s also wore the Lover’s Knot Tiara to the same event last year and sported it to a dinner during the summer of 2017.
Here’s a shot of the radiant Middleton in the tiara:

In 2016, she paired the crown with a stunning red dress:
Middleton may not have sported the headpiece often, but the tiara has been worn on many occasions by others and has a rich history. The bejeweled tiara was created in 1914 and is actually a replica of a piece originally owned by Princess Augusta of Hesse. The replica was created using jewels from Queen Mary’s personal collection.
Upon marrying Prince Charles, Princess Diana was loaned jewels from Queen Elizabeth II, including this tiara. The Princess sported the piece many times throughout her marriage to Prince Charles, and it became known as one of her favorites. When she passed away in 1997, the tiara went back into the queen’s collection.

This is surely a sentimental piece for Middleton, but it’s not the only jewelry she wears that once belonged to her late mother-in-law. Middleton’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring is actually the same ring Princess Diana picked out when Prince Charles proposed.
It was very important for Prince William to use this ring to propose to his soon-to-be bride.
“It’s my mother’s engagement ring, and it’s very special to me, as Kate is very special to me now as well. It was only right the two were put together,” he said in an interview with Britain’s ITV News. “It was my way of making sure mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Prince Harry also opted to give fiancee Meghan Markle a piece of his mother’s legacy. He used diamonds from his Princess Diana’s personal collection when designing Markle’s engagement ring, and the results are both sentimental and stunning.

Wearing Princess Diana’s jewels is a beautiful way to honor Prince William and Prince Harry’s late mother. Middleton and Markle are surely carrying out the royal tradition well.
