Kate Middleton shared this animated short to help kids talk about mental health

It’s becoming increasingly common for celebrities to do their part to speak out about mental health and eradicate the stigma associated with it. And the members of the British royal family are no exception. Earlier this year, Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Harry banded together to throw their support behind Heads Together, a charity with the goal of opening up the conversation about mental health to strip away the stigma and misconceptions and encourage people to get the help they need. Now, the Duchess of Cambridge is once again using her platform to raise awareness about mental health, this time through an animated video from the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.

Middleton introduces the animated short by explaining that the video is meant to help children understand how to talk about their mental health: “what to say and who to talk to when we have feelings that are too big to manage on our own, and how to listen and how to help if one of our friends is finding things difficult.” The animated film uses thumbprints to portray children and discusses how children can deal with and talk about mental and emotional problems. Mental health is an issue that is near and dear to Middleton, especially as it pertains to children. In fact, last year she said that if her own children were suffering from a mental health issue, she would make getting them help an immediate priority. “Throughout my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up. Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it,” she explained.
