While appearing as a guest on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Feb. 8, singer Katy Perry spoke about juggling work with being a mom. Daisy Dove, her daughter with actor Orlando Bloom, was born in August 2020, and Perry has never shied away from sharing the most candid motherhood experiences with her fans.

That includes pumping and breastfeeding, which made returning to work on “American Idol” when Daisy was just a few weeks old “so intense.”

“I did start filming American Idol Season 4 after I’d given birth, five weeks later,” Perry said. “And I didn’t plan that. But it was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ It was so intense, you know? Giving birth, and then going back to work and breastfeeding, and going like – holy crap! This is what women do? Oh my God!”

Mom of three Kelly Ripa agreed, saying, “It’s kinda amazing. It’s like you can’t believe what your body is capable of, right?”

Back in September, Perry tweeted that “women are many different things but one part I am learning about now is being a mother.” She also shared a quote from Linda Wooten that read, “Being a mother is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed.”

When Ryan Seacrest asked if Perry had a routine for her daughter, Perry teased, “Yeah, of course there’s a routine. My daughter is a Virgo and she thrives in routine.”

During the David Lynch Foundation’s virtual Meditate America event in December, Perry admitted to the challenges of being a working mom, as reported by Bang Showbiz.

“My daughter – she’s such a gift – but there is sometimes a challenge concerning sleep no matter how much support you have,” she said, adding that transcendental meditation was helping her find balance.

Perry, 36, is back on our TV screens for season four of ABC’s “American Idol” on Feb. 14, alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
