Katy Perry’s Surprise For An Orlando Shooting Victim On ‘Ellen’ Will Definitely Make You Cry

Ellen DeGeneres recently had a survivor of the Orlando nightclub shooting incident on her TV show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Tony Marrero came on to tell his inspirational story of recovery after the shooting. A major part of what helped him through, he says, was Katy Perry’s song, “Rise.”

As Marrero explains how the lyrics helped get him to where he is today, DeGeneres asks, “Do you want to meet Katy?” Marrero looks stunned—and then Katy Perry comes on-set.

Perry started crying almost immediately. She joked that she had “a tissue tucked up her sleeve like a little granny.” And if you’re not also reaching for a tissue right about now, I don’t know how you’re keeping yourself so composed!

Marrero thanked Perry for her lyrics and her inspirational songs.

“I just want to say thank you for everything you do. Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day that I was in the hospital all the way to now. You’re amazing,” he said.

But, little did Marrero know that there was even more of a surprise in store for him. Perry went on to say, “I heard that you’re creative just like me and you have dreams and you want to go out there and do good and fulfill them. I heard that you want to go to film school, so I personally want to pay for your first year at film school.”

This is such a touching story. And the best part of all? It’s one that’s far from over. Because I have a feeling that this is just the beginning for Marrero.
