Katy Perry welcomes first child with Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry is about to spend more nights being “Wide Awake”!

Perry and her fiance, actor Orlando Bloom, announced the arrival of their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, through social media on Aug. 26. The baby is Perry’s first child and Bloom’s second (he has a 9-year-old son, Flynn, from a previous relationship.)

The pair’s joyous news was shared on Twitter through UNICEF, the nonprofit organization where the new parents both serve as goodwill ambassadors.

“Welcome to the world, Daisy Dove Bloom,” UNICEF tweeted from its official account. “We are honoured to introduce Goodwill Ambassadors Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s new bundle of joy.”

The tweet features a beautiful black-and-white photo of Perry and Bloom holding little Daisy’s hand. The photo also shows a delicate daisy painted on Perry’s thumbnail.

The proud parents also shared some words of thanks and asked people to contribute to UNICEF “to support the most precious gift: a healthy child.”

“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the couple shared in a statement, according to “Entertainment Tonight.” “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every 11 seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.”

Perry, 35, and Bloom, 43, made a surprise announcement of the pregnancy back in March through Perry’s music video, “Never Worn White.” While the news may have surprised fans at the time, Perry told SiriusXM that she and Bloom had already been talking about having children well before the announcement.

“Well, it wasn’t on accident,” Perry said during an interview on the satellite radio network. “I’m so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals that I’ve been kind of able to check off my list and dreams and the life I’ve lived thus far. And I think I’ve just been trying to create this space in my own life where I’m not running myself too ragged and, like, you know, creating space for something new to happen like this. And I think we were both looking forward to this new interval of life and sharing this.”
