Appetizers are so much fun! They are perfect party food and even work for a casual meal when you want to pick on a few things instead of having a big dinner. But, for those of us who enjoy the keto eating lifestyle, the amazing appetizer can be tricky to navigate.

Many times, these little bites can have big carb counts. If you used to love things like cheese puffs but now have to pass to keep your diet keto-friendly, then we have great news for you. We found a recipe that combines two tasty appetizers that’s not just irresistible-looking, but it also fits into the keto diet.

The geniuses at It’s Simple by HowToThisAndThat.com shared this recipe for jalapeño popper cheese puffs, which takes the best of a bacon-wrapped jalapeño popper and a cheese-filled biscuit and pulls them together into one fantastic flavor bomb.

It’s Simple describes this mouthful as, “Cripsy on the outside, creamy and cheesy on the inside.” These puffs sound too good to be true!

The secret ingredient that gives these puffs their biscuit-like texture is almond flour and egg, which helps puff them up. This also boosts the fat content and sticks to the guidelines of a keto-friendly recipe in keeping the carbohydrate count down.

In addition to the egg and almond flour, you’ll need cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, baking powder, jalapeño peppers, bacon and ranch seasoning.

You’ll want to follow It’s Simple’s step-by-step directions, but in short, you’ll mix the cheeses, flour and egg in a bowl before rolling the mixture into crumbles of crispy bacon. After a short time in the refrigerator to firm up, you’ll put the balls in the oven for just a few minutes. They will puff up slightly and be a nice, golden brown.

You’ll need to wait a few minutes for them to cool before popping these puffs into your mouth. But, in less than an hour from start to finish, you’ll have your jalapeño popper cheese puffs ready to go!
