If you’ve ever lost a pet, you know that the experience can be devastating. In fact, research has shown that losing a pet can be even more difficult than losing a human friend or relative. When a pet has been in your life a long time, it can make the loss all the more heartbreaking. That was certainly the case for reality TV star Khloe Kardashian, who recently lost her dog, Gabbana, whom she’d had for 14 years.

She took to Instagram to share the sad news of her loss:

She posted a photo of herself cuddling her beloved canine. In her caption, Kardashian explained that Gabbana was “more than a pet,” calling her, “my first child, my companion and my friend,” a sentiment many pet owners can likely relate to. “She filled a significant role in my life and I’m forever grateful. I love you Goober!! I’ll remember you always!”

Other celebrities have also been vocal about the pain caused by losing pet. Actress Jessica Alba lost two dogs in two weeks, and she noted how her pets had been there through so much in her life:

Reality TV star Bethenny Frankel also took to social media to mourn the loss of her dog Cookie, who passed away after suffering multiple seizures:

“[She’s taught me] to be loyal and that you don’t have to love everyone. Quality vs quantity. She has a tight crew and she would kill for them. She never wanted fame and isn’t fazed by it, but somehow when that camera goes on, she never fails to steal the scene,” Frankel told People of her bond with her pooch.

So if the loss of your pet has affected you more than you could imagine, you’re not alone! Our furry friends mean a lot to us, and coping with their loss can be very difficult. All our sympathy to Kardashian as she mourns the loss of her beloved pet.
