Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have finally revealed their new baby’s name

On Jan. 15, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West welcomed their third child to the world, a healthy baby girl. However, the original announcement did not reveal the baby’s name. The power couple’s other two children, 4-year-old North and 2-year-old Saint, were certainly given some original monikers. Well, now the latest addition to the famous family’s name has been announced, and it’s no less unusual.

Kardashian West took to her app to let her fans know the new baby girl is named Chicago.

She later tweeted that the baby’s nickname will be Chi (pronounced “shy”).

As a Chicago-dweller, I have to say, I like it! While naming your child after a major city is certainly not conventional, would you expect anything less from these two?

Fans’ reactions to the baby’s unique name were definitely mixed on Twitter. Take this user, who pointed out that the baby’s name already appears on a food truck:

Prior to the reveal, fans were in a tizzy speculating that the new baby would have a name inspired by Louis Vuitton when Kardashian West posted a photo of one of the brand’s iconic prints with no explanation on Instagram:

However, the star quickly squashed that rumor the following day via Twitter:

Ahead of Chicago’s arrival, Kardashian West told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her talk show that they did not yet have a name in mind: “We don’t have a name. At the baby shower, I was like, ‘I don’t want to play any baby games, measuring the belly—none of that will work for this time around. I just want everyone to write a name on a little tile and see if there’s something that sticks.”

No word yet if that’s actually where the idea to name the baby Chicago came from! The name likely holds personal significance for the couple, though, as West hails from the Midwest city and has even made his hometown the subject of his music.
