Kirk Douglas just became a great-grandfather

Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas may be best known for his unforgettable roles in movies like “Spartacus” and “Inherit the Wind,” but his latest role may just be his favorite: great-grandfather. Kirk recently became a great-grandfather when his grandson Cameron Douglas (Michael Douglas’ son) welcomed his first child with girlfriend, Vivianne Thibes. The new baby girl is named Lua Izzy.

Proud daddy, Cameron, shared a heartwarming picture to his Instagram page in which Kirk is proudly holding little Lua in his arms. Also pictured is Kirk’s son, Michael, the beaming new grandpa.

The centenarian celebrated his 101st birthday in December, but the glowing smile that spreads across his face as he holds his sweet great-granddaughter is age-defying. In fact, Kirk has a very special connection to his great-granddaughter, Lua Izzy, as she is his namesake.

Kirk was born Issur Danielovitch in Amsterdam, a town in upstate New York. He used to go by the nickname Izzy, until he got into the theater biz and changed his name to Kirk on the advice of another actor, George Sekulovich, who also changed his name. (That actor? The legendary Karl Malden who appeared in such classics as “On The Waterfront” and “A Streetcar Named Desire”).

Kirk, a beloved Hollywood icon, recently received a standing ovation at the 2018 Golden Globes. He appeared on stage in a wheelchair accompanied by his daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta Jones.

Throughout his long career, Kirk has received two Golden Globe nominations, and he also won a Globe for his role in 1957’s “Lust for Life” (a biographical movie about Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh).

And, in 1968, Kirk won the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is an honorary Golden Globe Award that is given to those performers who are recognized for their “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”

Son Michael followed famously in his dad’s footsteps, and Lua’s dad, Cameron, has also dabbled in the field, most notably the 2000 film “Wonder Boys” in which he appeared beside his dad.

No doubt baby Lua Izzy will be as talented as her namesake and her famous grandpa and daddy. But, for now, just enjoy those snuggles from great-grandpa, little one!
