It seems like there are doughnuts in every flavor, and with every filling, nowadays. But, if the simplicity of a glazed doughnut is more your style, Krispy Kreme’s newest menu item is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
For the first time ever, the doughnut chain is transforming its iconic glaze waterfall to cover doughnuts with caramel. The process results in two brand new decadent glazed doughnuts: Caramel and Salted Double Caramel Crunch.
“There are a lot of caramel lovers out there and if you’re one of them, this doughnut is going to blow your mind,” Dave Skena, chief marketing officer of Krispy Kreme, said in a press release. “It’s incredibly delicious and you’re going to need to take a moment for yourself and just be one with caramel awesomeness. It’s been a year, to say the least. You’ve earned it.”
Available now through Nov. 22 at participating shops, the Caramel Glazed Doughnut is the classic Original glazed doughnut covered in caramel glaze, while the Salted Double Caramel Crunch Doughnut is the Caramel Glazed Doughnut dipped in caramel icing, then sprinkled with salted crunch topping.
You can try either caramel glazed doughnut separately or in a Caramel Lover’s Dozen, which includes six Caramel Glazed Doughnuts and six Salted Double Caramel Crunch Doughnuts.
Caramel is actually just the latest in a lineup of glaze flavors Krispy Kreme has introduced in recent years, including chocolate, lemon, blueberry, strawberry and coffee.
While those flavors are no longer available, you can still get original glazed, plus chocolate, maple, sour cream, blueberry cake and three glazed filled doughnuts: Kreme, raspberry and lemon.
If you don’t have a Krispy Kreme near you, you can make your own caramel glazed doughnuts. While it may look daunting if you’ve never made doughnuts before, this doughnut recipe from Country Hill Cottage makes treats that are both caramel flavored and have caramel glaze.
