Kristen Bell says her marriage to Dax Shepard ‘takes a lot of work’
In the wake of Anna Faris’ and Chris Pratt’s truly depressing split, an interview with Kristen Bell about her marriage to fellow actor Dax Shepard was a welcome change of pace. In a candid interview with US Weekly, Bell was honest about how she and her husband have stayed together through all of the ups and downs: “[It] takes a lot of work.”
Bell and Shepard have been married for four years, and she describes her choice of husband as “the best decision she’s ever made.” The duo made it official in October of 2013, and Bell has since given birth to two daughters, Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 2. Bell says that when she and Shepard fight, they make a point of showing the girls how they patch things up.
“[Dax] said, ‘Kids can see adults fight, particularly their parents, but you ever think about the follow through? When do they see them resolve it? When do they see them make up? And kids mimic us. That’s how they grow,’” Bell told US. “We always make an effort to make them see…we let our kids see how to solve conflict and that was his idea.”
Her biggest secret to keeping a relationship healthy and alive? Never stooping to contempt—never rolling your eyes at your partner. Bell says if you do that, you might as well break up because you’ve lost respect for them.
“It is not easy to work around another human being, but if you commit to it, you can pretty much permanently respect that person, but then it doesn’t really matter if you disagree because you still respect that person,” Bell said in the interview. “I do disagree with him on 90 percent of the issues on the planet. But we have really wonderful, intense valued conversations about things, and I always see his point, even if I disagree. It’s hard to do.”
We hope they continue to thoughtfully disagree for many years to come! Seriously, we can’t handle another adorable celeb couple breaking up.
