Your Phone Can Now Cast ‘Harry Potter’ Spells

Warner Bros.

Google teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures and something magical happened!

Google made the big announcement on its blog that it has partnered with Warner Bros. on the studio’s newest film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

In case you haven’t heard, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is a prequel to the “Harry Potter” series and takes place in J.K. Rowling’s beloved Wizarding World, but tells the tale of the mysterious American Wizarding World.

The film, which hit theaters Nov. 18, chronicles the adventures of a wizard named Newt Scamander living in New York in 1926.

For Android phone users, this partnership means that you will have access to Harry Potter spells at your fingertips. In honor of the newly released film, you can turn on your phone flashlight by saying “OK Google” followed by “Lumos,” and turn it off by saying the command “Nox .”

You can also silence all notifications and the ringer by saying “OK Google,” followed by the spell, “Silencio.” Magically, these additions are already activated on an Android phone, no update needed.

These commands make perfect sense because in the Harry Potter series the spell “Lumos” illuminates the end of a wand, turning it into a flashlight. And of course the spell “Sliencio” will quiet even the noisiest of crowds.

In addition to these features, Google has a few other new tricks up its sleeve. You will also be able to explore “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” from Google Street View.

Google Street View is pretty amazing regardless of which street you are looking at, but imagine taking a 360-degree view inside the world of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” through an exclusive visit to New York in 1926. According to Google’s blog, “Fans can visit MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA); Steen National Bank, where Newt first meets Jacob Kowalski; the underground speakeasy The Blind Pig; and the magical apartment of Tina and Queenie Goldstein, two of the film’s key characters.”

Also keep an eye out for the new Daydream view, a virtual reality headset that allows you to use Daydream to explore the American Wizarding World through the eyes of Newt.

With all of these magical advancements happening thanks to the partnership of Google and Warner Bros. Pictures, it looks like I will be joining team Android.
