Listen to Neil Patrick Harris sing the national anthem at the Yankees Game

It’s generally considered to be a great honor to perform the national anthem before a sports game. But when Neil Patrick Harris, a true blue Yankees fan, got to sing it before a Yankees game, well, it was a dream come true for all of us.

He posted about the opportunity online writing, “Honored to sing the National Anthem tonight at Yankees Stadium. And they won! I take (almost) no credit #bucketlist.”

And this certainly was a bucket list-worthy item!

Harris is best known for his acting, having played roles in “How I Met Your Mother,” “Glee,” and many other movies and TV shows (if you’re of a certain age, you will always know him as Dr. Doogie Howser).

But hardcore Harris fans know he also has an amazing singing voice, and we love it whenever we get to see him take the stage, whether on Broadway, on SNL or when hosting an awards show.

We’re thrilled to see him take his talents to the field. While Harris grew up in New Mexico, which doesn’t have its own Major League Baseball team, New York City is his adopted hometown. No word on how Harris chose to root for the Yankees over the Mets.

Listen to Harris’ simple, yet powerful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” here:

Harris recently took his son to see his first Yankee game at the stadium. Seeing the batting practice and having the players sign a baseball for him apparently inspired Harris’ son, Gideon, as he now wants to become a baseball player when he grows up.

You can see the cute confession in the video Harris posted about the day on Instagram:

Gideon’s first Yankees game! First stop, batting practice!

“Are you going to be a baseball player now when you grow up?” Harris asks. His son simply replies, “Yes.”

Harris’ follow-up is, “[Are you going to] hit home runs?” Once again, the reply, “Yes.”

So, there you have it—straight from the Yankees’ no. 1 fan. Maybe he’ll play for them someday?

Harris has a pair of 6-year-old twins, Harper and Gideon, with his husband David Burtka. If you keep up with Harris’ Instagram account, you can see that this family spends a lot of quality time together, and that they travel a great deal.

They visited Alaska as a family over the summer.

And spent time in Vancouver the summer before.

And what would any good family travel be without a trip to Disney?

But one of the most exciting places they’ve been so far? To watch the Yankees play—while watching dad sing the national anthem beforehand. Not bad for a family outing to a ball game, huh?

Now we’ll just have to watch Harris’ Instagram account while we wait for him to reveal what his family’s Halloween costumes will be this year? In the past, they have all been pretty epic.

How cute are these coordinated “Alice in Wonderland”-themed costumes?

Or Halloween 2015, when the family went with a “Star Wars” theme?

A long time ago in a Halloween far, far away….

Last year’s costumes were a nod to old Hollywood. Harris and his husband make a great Charlie Chaplin and Groucho Marx, while their kids are adorable versions of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.
