Lush re-releases its limited-edition Shark Fin soap in order to support shark conservation efforts

Sharks are some of the coolest creatures on this planet. Not only have they been around for 400 million years (yes, they even predate dinosaurs), but female sharks can get pregnant on their own, no male required. And some scientists say that in the right circumstances, any female shark can self-impregnate. Talk about girl power!

Sadly, sharks are in grave danger. More than 25 percent of all sharks are either endangered or threatened, and 100 million sharks are killed by humans each year.

That’s why Lush is re-releasing their limited-edition Shark Fin Soap. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to shark conservation efforts, primarily the completion of Rob Stewart’s newest documentary “Sharkwater: Extinction.” Some of the money will also be used to support the Canadian Senator Michael McDonald’s S-238 Bill, which aims to ban the importing of shark fins.

Stewart was a shark conservation activist and documentary filmmaker. His first movie, “Sharkwater,” earned critical acclaim, and changed the way millions of people look at sharks. This past January, however, while still in the midst of filming the sequel, “Sharkwater: Extinction,” he passed away at the young age of 37 in a scuba-diving accident.

But Lush is committed to keeping his legacy alive, and ensuring that this important film is completed. To that end, they’re selling their Shark Fin Soap for $5.95. The soap will be available for purchase across the United States until they reach their funding goal of $250,000.

The soap features arame seaweed, lime zest oil and sea salt for deep exfoliation. The fragrance will instantly transport you to the beach, even if you are actually stuck at the office.

In all seriousness, I’ll leave you with these beautiful words from Stewart himself:

“You’re told your whole life since you were a kid, sharks are dangerous. You’re warned not to go adventuring too far out into the ocean, but then finally… you see the thing you were taught your whole life to fear, and it’s perfect, and it doesn’t want to hurt you, and it’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. And your whole world changes.”
