MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has remarried. The 50-year-old philanthropist married Seattle teacher Dan Jewett.
Jewett is a science teacher at the private school Scott and Bezos’ children attended. He teaches chemistry. He shared the news on Giving Pledge, a charity Scott joined that asks billionaires to pledge publicly to give most of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
“It is strange to be writing a letter indicating I plan to give away the majority of my wealth during my lifetime, as I have never sought to gather the kind of wealth required to feel like saying such a thing would have particular meaning,” Jewett wrote in an announcement at the Giving Pledge.
“I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” he wrote. “I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie.”
The couple lives in Seattle with Scott and Bezos’ four children.
Bezos offered his support for his ex-wife and her new partner.
“Dan is such a great guy,” Bezos said in a press release, according to Yahoo. “I am happy and excited for the both of them.”
After 25 years of marriage, Bezos and Scott divorced in 2019. When Bezos posted about the decision on his Twitter account, it quickly made global news. “Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends,” the end of the statement reads.

Rumors of infidelity swirled as Bezos was soon after revealed to be in a relationship with Lauren Sanchez, whom he is still dating, though the Amazon founder staunchly denied these allegations.
MacKenzie Scott retains 4% of Amazon stock as part of their divorce settlement, making her one of the richest people in the world, with Forbes estimating her net worth at $53.8 billion. After signing on to the Giving Pledge, she gave away $4 billion in four months, focusing on need that has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.
