These Cute Gnome Ornaments Made Out Of Pine Cones Are A Fun Holiday Craft

How cute are these?

Looking for a fun, last-minute holiday craft? Pine cones are a natural fit with the holiday season, and this super-cute craft from Craftpod uses them to create miniature people aka “pine-cone folk.”

The U.K.-based craft subscription box shared the tutorial for the project on their blog, and the result is both festive and adorable.

To make your own, you’ll need some pine cones, felt, thread and beads. It just requires a few simple tools, including scissors and a hot glue gun.

Check out the finished craft as posted to Craftpod’s Instagram page:

The finished pine-cone folk make perfect ornaments, as shown in the photo, but I also think they’d look right at home on your mantel or wherever your Elf on the Shelf ends up. You can get the full tutorial here.

Better Homes & Gardens shared their take on a similar craft, and they call their version “pinecone gnome ornaments.” While Craftpod’s “pine-cone folk” went for a colorful look, these gnomes keep it monochromatic with matching white hats and beards.

The magazine pointed out that gnome-themed Christmas decor has been gaining in popularity. Indeed, a search for the #gnomefortheholidays hashtag yields over 8,000 results. Not too shabby!

Look up #pineconecrafts on Instagram and you’ll get more than 2,500 results, which shows these attractive natural materials are also pretty popular.

Pine cones also make beautiful additions to wreaths, as evidenced by this shot of a colorful pine cone-based wreath, posted to Instagram by @rachelmoffatt13:

🌿Wreath🌿 __ 🌈 My lovely friend Susie @resolvetoplay is challenging us to #getcreativewith WREATHS this week so it was back to pine cone #naturecrafts for us! __ 🌈 Pine cones, a circle of card and the trusty glue gun wasn't quite sturdy enough so I stuffed it full of "furry caterpillar branches" (some of Abels nature treasures) and it took a much better shape! __ 🌈 We used our @briancleggart Bio glitter to decorate using a crazy toddler process I can only describe as 'glitter dump' πŸ˜‚ I've never seen Abel so excited! Luckily doing it over a piece of folded paper meant it could all go back in the pot! __ 🌈Apologies if like my husband the thought of this gives you palpitations! __ 🌿🌈🌿🌈🌿🌈🌿🌈 #merrymakingkids #tagfromtheheart @montessorifromtheheart @tagfromtheheart #ecoglitter #bioglitter #ecoliving #ecofriendly #glitter #natureplay #natureinthehands #natureart #pineconecrafts #christmascrafts #waldorfinspired #reggioinspired #handmadeChristmas #handmadechristmasgifts #craftymom #crafymum #ukmumsquad #handmadedecorations #handmadedecor #ecochristmas #ecocraft #theartofslowliving #momentsinmotherhood #outdoorclassroom #kidscrafts101 #funcraftskids @redtedart @incredibusy
