How To Make Your Own Healthy Version Of Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino

Detoxinista

If you scrolled through social media last week, you were pretty much guaranteed to catch a glimpse of Starbucks’ very popular and colorful Unicorn Frappuccino.

But did you know that the limited-edition drink, made with vanilla and mango syrups and blue-tinted white mocha sauce, contained a whopping 76 grams of sugar if you consume the venti-sized drink?! That’s double the American Heart Association’s recommended “daily added sugar” amount for men and triple the recommended allotment for women!

That’s a lot of sugar for one person. Not to mention, the reviews were definitely mixed as far as the taste is concerned.

If you were one of the Unicorn Frapp’s fans but are searching for a healthier alternative, this Unicorn Smoothie looks pretty amazing.

The bright pink shade of the smoothie isn’t  created with food coloring, but is naturally this vibrant color because of the Pitaya, better known as Dragon Fruit, used in the recipe. Plus it’s super healthy!

“You can find pouches of Pitaya puree in the freezer section at Whole Foods. This unique fruit is loaded with antioxidants, and its seeds contain polyunsaturated fats, like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids,”  Megan from the Detoxinista blog writes.

In addition, that beautiful shade of blue-green contrasting drizzle is also created naturally by using spirulina, which is a nutrient-packed bluish green-colored algae that is high in protein, iron, calcium, and B-vitamins.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your healthy version of the Unicorn Frapp:
