This Man Surprised His Nurse Girlfriend With A Proposal On The Hospital Helipad
A proposal for the ages! Nursing tech Michael Nibecker, who works in the emergency department at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, proposed to his girlfriend, clinical nurse Casey Lang, on the top of the hospital’s helipad.
With the help of family, friends and hospital colleagues, Nibecker tricked Lang into thinking a patient was coming to be admitted by helicopter and she was needed to help bring them in.
However, when she came out of the elevator, instead of seeing a helicopter bringing in a patient, she saw photos hanging up of trips to Paris and other special moments she and Nibecker had shared, as well as dozens of sunflowers tied to the fences, some wrapped with a pink ribbon.
“They’re my favorite flower. Any bouquet he’s ever bought me has had sunflowers in it in some way,” she said. “He’s even thrown seeds over the fence in the backyard in hopes of them growing and me one day noticing them.”
The hospital shared a video that captures the moment Lang came up to the helipad:
How sweet! Nibecker stood in the middle of the helipad anxiously waiting for her, all while being filmed for the montage video. “I was about as nervous as I have ever been,” he said. “I knew she would say yes, but there were so many moving parts to the whole thing.”
“I knew I wanted to propose to Casey for a long time,” he said. “And I was
looking for a suitable location for a while.”
Wearing her scrubs, Lang came out to meet him in the middle and he dropped to one knee.
The couple met at the hospital after Nibecker was introduced to Lang by another nurse when she was a student. The hospital’s staff, as well as their friends and family, are important to the couple and didn’t want to miss out on the proposal, so they came to celebrate. One even checking to make sure she said yes after he dropped to one knee.
“When I turned and saw them all there, it took an already amazing proposal and made it extraordinary, at least in my eyes,” Lang said. “My favorite thing to do is be around the ones I love, so everyone together — work family, friend family and my actual family — made me the happiest girl in the world.”
Nibecker added that he and Lang were part of this emergency room family prior to dating, so, “It was only fitting that this extended family was witness to something so special to both of us.”
What’s next for the couple? “It’s going to be fun,” she said as she smiled in the video capturing their engagement.
