This video of a man singing the ‘Lion King’ song with his donkey is going viral

In Disney’s “The Lion King,” the song “Circle of Life” serves as a gathering call, and all of the animals race to see Simba being presented to the animal kingdom for the very first time.

So, it’s not surprising that this iconic song served as a gathering song in real life, too. Travis Kinley, a donkey and horse owner in Sumter, South Carolina, sang “Circle of Life” with his farm animals and it definitely got their attention. In fact, it even inspired his three-year-old pet donkey, Nathan, to join him in singing!

As Kinley began to sing, his donkey started braying right along with him. He shared the moment in a video that’s both hilarious and hard to stop watching. (You may want to put on headphones first, though! Donkeys are loud.)

Kinley posted the video to Facebook writing, “Did the Lion King opening and Nathan joined in with me! I love this dude!”:

Of course, Disney fans all know the song he’s singing. According to FOX Carolina, it features Zulu lyrics among the coming of a lion — in this case, young Simba.

There’s a video from Disney’s YouTube channel in case you need to jog your memory, or you just can’t help but watch this opening for the millionth time:

The song’s popularity and the fact that people found this moment absolutely hilarious likely has something to do with the video’s success online. It’s been shared over 80,000 times on Facebook since it was first posted on July 25.

Kinley told WKYC that he adopted Nathan after the donkey started causing problems to his previous owner:

“I got him from about the North Carolina, South Carolina line,” Kinley explained. “He was causing some trouble at someone else’s house and I just picked him up for $100 bucks, he seemed alright with me.”

They’ve gotten along ever since.

“You can always tell he’s a thinking animal,” Kinley told WKYC. “He’s just playful, that’s just in his nature.”

Clearly, he was right about Nathan’s playful nature because he was more than ready to ham it up when the camera started rolling!

Kinley told WKYC that this was the first time he and Nathan “sang” together:

“I start singing and Nathan starts to bray behind me, and I’m kind of blown away because we never do this together; we never sing together,” Kinley said.

Even he found the moment to be quite funny — so much so that he couldn’t contain his laughter:

“He keeps going, so I keep going, and all of a sudden I just kind of break down laughing at the end,” he told WKYC.

According to a Facebook post from the Donkey Sanctuary, the animals bray — or make the “singing noise” heard in the video — to express a variety of emotions. They may do it when they’re lonely and looking for a companion, excited or feeling threatened:

We’d like to think that Nathan the donkey was feeling excited! Because, really, who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned “The Lion King” sing-along?
